Definitions

1. Virtual Local Area Network — a method of creating logically separate networks on the same physical switch infrastructure by tagging Ethernet frames with a VLAN ID. VLANs isolate broadcast domains, improve security by segmenting traffic, and allow network topology to be reconfigured in software without rewiring.

   In plain English: A way to split one physical network into multiple separate virtual networks — like having invisible walls between different groups of devices.

   Example: We put the guest Wi-Fi on VLAN 100 and the corporate network on VLAN 10 so visitors can't see any internal resources.
