A test proposed by Alan Turing in which a human evaluator converses with both a human and a machine; if the evaluator can't reliably distinguish which is which, the machine is said to exhibit intelligent behavior. Whether LLMs have 'passed' the Turing test is debated — they're very good at conversation but very bad at being intelligent in the way Turing meant.

    In plain English: A test where a person tries to figure out whether they're chatting with a human or a computer — if they can't tell the difference, the computer is considered 'intelligent.'
