1. The capital a startup raises or secures to build product, hire people, and extend runway while it grows. It can come from founders, angels, venture funds, revenue, debt, grants, or other sources.

   In plain English: The money a startup gets to build and grow the business.

   Example: "Startup funding got tougher once the market shifted toward efficiency over pure growth stories."
