The number of layers, calls, or abstractions between an action and its underlying effect. In engineering slang, too much stack depth usually means slower debugging and fuzzier ownership.
In plain English: How many layers or levels you have to pass through in a system or call chain.
Example: "The request path had absurd stack depth, so a simple timeout required tracing through frameworks, middleware, RPC wrappers, and three observability hooks."
