Sample

Definitions

1. A subset of data selected from a larger population for analysis, or a single discrete measurement taken from a continuous signal at a specific point in time. In audio processing, a sample is one amplitude value captured at the sampling rate (e.g., 44,100 samples per second for CD audio).

   In plain English: A small piece of data taken from a larger set, used to understand the whole without examining everything.

   Example: "We sampled 5% of production traffic for profiling — enough to spot the slow query without impacting latency."
