Definitions

1. A collection of related rules used by a security control, monitoring platform, firewall, or policy system to decide how to handle activity. Rulesets must be maintained carefully because outdated, contradictory, or noisy rules can reduce both effectiveness and trust in the system using them.

   In plain English: A set of rules used together by a security system.

   Example: "The IDS ruleset had grown so large and stale that the team had to rebuild it around high-value detections instead of keeping every historical signature."
