Definitions

1. A system that evaluates defined conditions and logic to decide whether to trigger an action, allow behavior, or produce a result. In security, rule engines appear in SIEMs, fraud systems, policy enforcement, and authorization platforms where decisions must be applied consistently at scale.

   In plain English: A system that applies rules to data or events to make decisions automatically.

   Example: "The fraud rule engine denied the transaction because the device reputation, location mismatch, and failed MFA pattern crossed the configured threshold."
