1. A mechanism by which a device or system proves to a remote verifier that its boot state, software measurements, or security properties match an expected trusted condition. Remote attestation is used in trusted computing, secure device onboarding, and workload integrity verification.

   In plain English: A way for a system to prove to another system that it is running in a trusted state.

   Example: "The zero-trust gateway required remote attestation before granting sensitive data access to field laptops."
