Definitions

1. Short for Remote Desktop Protocol, Microsoft's protocol for graphical remote access to Windows systems. RDP is valuable for administration and support, but exposed or poorly secured RDP services are frequent targets for brute force, credential theft, and ransomware operators.

   In plain English: A Microsoft protocol used to remotely control a Windows computer.

   Example: "The incident started when an internet-exposed RDP service accepted reused credentials from an old contractor account."
