Definitions

1. A framework that provides components or abstractions for building retrieval-augmented generation systems, such as indexing, retrievers, prompt templates, and evaluation hooks. RAG frameworks can accelerate development but may also hide important implementation tradeoffs.

   In plain English: A framework for building retrieval-augmented generation systems.

   Example: "They started with a RAG framework for speed, then replaced parts of it once they needed tighter control over chunking and observability."
