An exploit, exploit code, or detailed exploitation technique that has been released publicly rather than kept private among researchers or attackers. Once a public exploit exists, defenders usually raise urgency because the barrier to abuse drops sharply for opportunistic attackers.
In plain English: An exploit that is openly available to the public.
Example: "The patch went from recommended to emergency as soon as a public exploit appeared for the internet-facing gateway bug."
