1. The protection of workloads, data, identities, and control planes running on shared cloud platforms operated by third-party providers. Public cloud security depends heavily on correct identity design, configuration, logging, and understanding the provider's shared-responsibility boundaries.

   In plain English: Security for systems and data running on shared cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.

   Example: "The incident was a public cloud security failure because the storage bucket policy exposed data even though the provider's infrastructure itself was operating normally."
