1. The market where new securities are issued and sold directly by the company or issuer, as opposed to secondary trading between existing holders. In startup finance, primary market activity includes new fundraising rounds.

   In plain English: The market where new shares or securities are first issued.

   Example: "The round happened in the primary market, not as a secondary sale between investors."
