Physical Penetration Test

1. An authorized test of physical security controls in which assessors attempt to enter restricted spaces, access sensitive hardware, or bypass facility protections. Physical penetration tests reveal weaknesses that purely digital assessments miss, such as tailgating, poor badge checks, or exposed ports in secure areas.

   In plain English: An authorized attempt to bypass physical security and reach restricted areas or hardware.

   Example: "The physical penetration test succeeded because the assessor tailgated into the office and reached an unlocked wiring closet."
