Permission Abuse
Noun · Security & Infosec
Definitions
The misuse of legitimate permissions to access, alter, or extract data or perform actions beyond intended business use. Permission abuse often does not require exploiting a software bug because the harmful action is enabled by overly broad or poorly monitored access rights.
In plain English: Using granted permissions in a harmful or unauthorized way.
Example: "The incident was not a classic hack; it was permission abuse by a support role that could export far more customer data than expected."
