Password Reset

Noun · Security & Infosec

Definitions

  1. The act of replacing an existing password with a new one, either by the user or through an administrative or automated recovery workflow. Password reset flows are security-critical because a weak reset process can become the easiest route to account compromise.

In plain English: Changing an account's password, often through a recovery or support process.

Example: "The attacker used a help desk social-engineering call to trigger a fraudulent password reset on the executive's account."
