1. Describing a one-sided relationship in which one person extends emotional energy, interest, and time toward a public figure who is unaware of their existence. While the concept dates to 1956 media studies, the term exploded in internet usage around 2020 as streaming culture, parasocial relationships with content creators, and stan culture became subjects of mainstream discourse and self-aware critique.

   In plain English: The one-way emotional bond fans feel with celebrities or content creators who don't know they exist.

   Example: "I need to stop pretending the podcast hosts are my friends. This parasocial relationship has gone too far."
