  1. A state where a process or system has exhausted available memory and starts failing, crashing, or being killed. In engineering slang, 'out of memory' is both a literal error and shorthand for a whole class of resource disasters.

    In plain English: A failure caused by exhausting available memory.

    Example: "The worker went out of memory during the backfill because the supposedly streaming path had quietly accumulated one huge in-memory buffer."
