Modbus Security

Definitions

1. The protection of systems using the Modbus industrial communication protocol, which was not designed with modern authentication or encryption by default. Modbus security usually depends on segmentation, gateway controls, monitoring, and compensating protections around inherently weak protocol behavior.

   In plain English: Security measures used to protect industrial systems that communicate with the Modbus protocol.

   Example: "The plant could not replace Modbus overnight, so Modbus security relied on strict network isolation and read-only monitoring paths."
