1. A reminder to understand the situation before taking action, especially when the action might be hard to reverse. In engineering slang, it usually appears right before someone proposes a bold migration or cleanup move.

   In plain English: A reminder to check carefully before taking a risky action.

   Example: "The database lead kept repeating 'look before you leap' because deleting the old table would be easy and proving no hidden workflow still needed it would not."
