1. The part of a system, customer base, or workflow that takes the hit from a given change or failure. In engineering slang, impact zones matter because knowing who is affected shapes triage and communication.

   In plain English: The area or group affected by a change or failure.

   Example: "They contained the outage faster once they identified the impact zone as one region and one legacy API path rather than the whole platform."
