  1. Short for identity provider, the service that authenticates users and issues assertions or tokens to relying applications in federated login systems. An IdP is central to SSO because it becomes the source of truth for authentication events and identity claims.

    Example: "The outage affected dozens of apps because the shared IdP could not issue login assertions."
