1. A human performance level used as a reference point when evaluating an AI system. Comparing against a human baseline helps teams judge whether a model is merely improving over old automation or actually approaching meaningful real-world competence.

   In plain English: A human level of performance used as a benchmark for comparison.

   Example: "The benchmark looked less impressive once they added a human baseline and saw that trained analysts still handled ambiguous cases much better."
