Gas
Noun · Development
Definitions
A unit of computational effort in the Ethereum blockchain. Every operation in the EVM costs gas, and users pay gas fees (in ETH) to compensate validators for processing transactions. High network demand drives gas prices up.
In plain English: The fee you pay to run anything on Ethereum — like paying for electricity to run a vending machine, except the price changes based on how busy the network is.
Example: "That NFT mint cost $200 in gas fees — more than the NFT itself."
