Definitions

1. A model that is near the leading edge of capability for its class at a given point in time. The phrase is often used to describe large general-purpose models that push current limits in reasoning, generation, multimodality, or tool use.

   In plain English: A leading-edge AI model among the most capable currently available.

   Example: "They reserved the frontier model for the hardest analyst workflows because the cost was too high to use it on every request."
