Fake Data

Noun · Hacker Culture

Definitions

  1. Artificial or simulated data used for testing, demos, prototyping, or development instead of real production data. In engineering culture fake data is useful, but it becomes dangerous when teams forget how much real-world mess it leaves out.

In plain English: Made-up data used for testing or demos.

Example: "The workflow looked perfect with fake data, then collapsed immediately when real customer inputs introduced missing values, duplicates, and inconsistent formatting."
