EAL
Abbreviation · Security & Infosec
Definitions
Short for Evaluation Assurance Level, a rating in the Common Criteria framework that indicates the depth and rigor of a product security evaluation. Higher EALs imply more formal assurance activity, but they do not automatically mean a product is secure for every environment.
In plain English: A certification rating that reflects how rigorously a security product was evaluated.
Example: "The hardware token had an EAL certification, but we still needed to review how it was deployed."
