  1. An area of the system with very little supporting structure, tooling, or reusable code, forcing developers to build everything themselves. In engineering slang, a code desert feels empty until you realize it also means there is no shelter.

    In plain English: A barren area of the codebase with little support or reusable infrastructure.

    Example: "Writing the integration there felt like crossing a code desert, because there were no shared helpers, examples, or test fixtures to build on."
