Definitions

1. A symmetric block cipher designed by Bruce Schneier in the 1990s, historically popular as a fast general-purpose encryption algorithm. While still notable in cryptography history, newer algorithms such as AES are more standard for many modern uses.

   In plain English: An older symmetric encryption algorithm once widely used before newer standards became more common.

   Example: "The legacy appliance still used Blowfish in a mode the security team wanted to retire."
